Justin Sun Selectively Uses dApp Volume Data for TRON Propaganda

In a recent Twitter post, TRON CEO Justin Sun selectively used data available on dApp statistics website dapp.review to claim that his blockchain platform is more successful than the competition.

Comparing the volume data of TRON, EOS, and Ethereum (ETH), he concluded that his own platform was better than both EOS and Ethereum, combined.

This instance aside, Sun has accrued a long-standing reputation for bending facts and data to spread TRON related shill.

Misusing Data to Mislead People

In his tweet, Justin Sun posted a screenshot of statistics related to various platforms that allow decentralized apps to be built on top of their respective blockchains. The website in question compares volume, daily active users, and transaction data of EOS, Ethereum, and TRON.

On March 5, 2019, there was a sharp and unexplained rise in TRON’s transactional volume. It rose from $10.08 million on March 1, 2019, to $43.61 million by March 6, 2019. At that time, the volume of EOS and Ethereum was recorded to be a paltry $11.61 and $4.40 million, respectively.

Sun publicly shared this data, claiming that TRON had finally surpassed the combined volume of EOS and Ethereum. Although his claim was accurate, it is important to note that it did not represent the whole truth. He overlooked other essential aspects — such as active users and transactions — of the two other blockchains. TRON has consistently trailed EOS in both transactions and the number of users since its inception.

Closer scrutiny shows that there was a sharp surge in TRON volume in the days leading up to March 6, 2019. This surge peaked at $43.61 million and has been on a continuous downward spiral since then. It fell to $32.30 million the very next day and to $17.53 million on March 9, 2019. By March 10, EOS had already jumped ahead of TRON in volumes.

Is Sun Intentionally Misleading the TRON Community?

Questions are already being raised over the actions and leadership of Justin Sun within the TRON community.

Sun began his career with Ripple and then decided to develop TRON when he realized the potential of the technology. Sun has also been disputing with Ethereum (ETH) founder Vitalik Buterin, often engaging in public arguments on Twitter. Buterin has gone to the extent of labeling Sun as someone obsessed with both Ethereum and him.

It remains to be seen if Sun can win back the community’s confidence with TRON’s future developments and the recent acquisition of BitTorrent.
