To begin with, we need to mention the situation in the cryptocurrency industry in the spring of 2021. At that time, the Chinese government banned coin mining in several provinces in the country. As a result, the owners of the equipment were forced to unplug and start choosing countries to move to.

This had a direct impact on the Bitcoin network’s hashray – that is, the total processing power of all devices within the cryptocurrency’s blockchain. The figure peaked at 191 hashes per second on May ninth, but had already fallen to a local low of 69 hashes by June 28th. The situation looks as follows on the graph.

Against this background, miners moved from China, with people from other countries plugging in new equipment, which was quite profitable against the backdrop of the sinking difficulty of mining. Now the situation has almost recovered, and yesterday the hash rate was at 180 exascale.

This means that miners continue to connect to the network and buy new mining equipment. Since Bitcoin is growing and setting new price records, such a decision seems to be the right one.

It won’t be long before miners will have a new model to use.

What will the new miners from Bitmain be like?

According to The Block journalists, the new ASIC miner is codenamed S19X. Rumours about it were published by Colin Wu, former public relations manager at Bitmain. Here’s his quote from Twitter.

Exclusive: according to a snapshot from a Thai supplier, Bitmain will launch a new generation of Antminer S19 XP with 5nm chips from TSMC with 150 tereshes per second at 3,225 watts of power. Deliveries of this line of hardware are scheduled from July to September 2022. Compared to the previous generation, the S19Pro will show significant progress in ASIC miner architecture.

The S19XP is expected to be officially announced at the company’s conference in Dubai this week. That said, the first devices in the line have already been sent for testing to Bitmain’s VIP customers. As we have already noted, after the launch S19XP will be the most powerful ASIC miner in the world.

Antminer S19 Pro

Bitmain’s current line of Antminer S19 Pro devices are designed around a 7nm chip with a hash rate of 110 terahashes per second and a power consumption of 3.1 kilowatts per hour. The S19XP should end up being around 36 per cent more powerful for the same level of power consumption.

Note that even though Bitcoin mining requires powerful and noisy ASIC miners, it is possible to get rewards in BTC even with a regular video card. A new payout system from the 2Miners pool, which was launched in October, will help make that happen. It allows users to mine Etherium, but receive the rewards earned in Bitcoin or Nano. The conversion is automatic, so from the outside the process will really resemble mining BTC on a regular video card.

We believe that the company's decision to release a new generation of miners hints transparently at the positive within the digital asset industry. Bitcoin's growth is allowing it to mine in the plus side, even though the difficulty of mining has been steadily increasing in recent weeks. And this is not stopping the miners themselves. Therefore, we assume that BTC mining hash rate and complexity will continue to increase in the near future.
