Recall that the metaworld is a virtual space in which people interact. This is usually done with the help of virtual reality helmets or computers. The topic is now a popular one, as in a pandemic, another reality allows you to travel and move around without any restrictions.

That said, Musk himself is already remembered for criticising new directions in technology in the form of Web3. In particular, he asked where exactly to find this novelty. Well, in this case he was supported by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. You can read more about the story in a separate article.

What the future of technology will be

The Tesla executive was skeptical about the concept of meta universes in a recent interview. Here’s one of his quotes published by Cointelegraph, in which the entrepreneur and the world’s richest man shares his view of the situation

I just don’t understand how anyone can get through an entire day with a monitor attached to their nose. I don’t think I buy into the concept of a meta-universe, although people talk to me a lot about it.

Tesla CEO Ilon Musk

The point is that using VR helmets for long periods of time is simply not possible due to the nausea and negative effects on vision. Neuralink, on the other hand, can offer a fully immersive virtual reality experience. Recall that the startup is in the business of producing implantable neurocomputer interfaces, which means such devices could in theory provide entry to a metavirtual universe with a direct connection to the brain.

Musk continues.

In the long term, an advanced Neuralink could completely immerse you in virtual reality. I think we’re a long way from disappearing into the meta-universe, it just sounds like a fashion trend right now.

From the quote, we can conclude that the concept of meta-universes is somehow a competitor for Musk's products. And therefore one should be careful with what the entrepreneur says, because there could be his interest in the decline in popularity of the concept of meta-universes.

Ilon also recalled how, as a child, he was warned not to sit too close to the TV.

It would ruin your eyesight, right? And now we have a television set literally right there – in your face. What? Wouldn’t that be bad for your health?

This isn't the first time Musk has generally used interviews for his own benefit. In particular, in mid-December he called Dogecoin a better means of payment than Bitcoin. The rationale for this theory is in a separate article.

Elon Musk and Dogecoin

According to experts, the development of technology for Neuralink could completely erase the line between the virtual world and the real world. It will also give a full sense of the metaworld, rather than just seeing pixels on a screen. At the moment, Musk is right – at an early stage, the concept of virtual reality remains far from perfect, but with the passage of time and new technological innovations, the situation will change dramatically.

We believe that Elon Musk has already proved controversial in his views - especially after his criticism of Bitcoin mining in spring 2021. In this case, however, the entrepreneur has highlighted the disadvantages of the technology, which in one way or another is a competitor for his product. It is therefore a fact that must be taken into account when assessing his statements.
