Note that NFT support among major social platforms is a relatively new trend. The day before, Twitter started interacting with non-exchangeable tokens. Now subscribers of Twitter Blue can connect the cryptocurrency wallet to their profile, after which they can choose the desired NFT and install it as an avatar. The developers have also not forgotten about the distinction, as NFT avatars will not be displayed in the usual round shape, but in the form of a hexagon.

While such an initiative seems promising, it certainly wasn’t appreciated by Elon Musk. Shortly after the related news broke, the world’s richest man called the new feature rubbish. As Musk stated, the Twitter team should have first taken care of the problem of cryptocurrency scammers, which abound on the platform. Read more about the story in a separate piece.

NFT back on the hype wave

It’s not yet clear what form NFT will take on YouTube, but Wojitski says the focus here will be on “helping content creators take advantage of new technologies. According to Decrypt’s sources, the CEO has described Web3 as a “source of inspiration” for YouTube, especially when it comes to decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs). Here’s the platform CEO’s quote.

The past year in the world of cryptocurrencies, non-interchangeable tokens (NFTs) and even decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs) has shown a previously unimaginable opportunity to strengthen the connection between content creators and their fans.

So in this case, Susan recognises the potential of blockchain platforms to directly reward content creators. And that sounds strange for a YouTube spokesperson, because the platform shows ads during the playback of famous people's videos and also earns money on it.

Note that NFTs themselves continue to gain popularity. In particular, the popularity of the corresponding query on Google worldwide is at a peak. Which means people are more interested in tokens than ever before.

The situation is also affecting the trading volumes of non-token assets. In particular, January was remembered as a record week for this indicator. The previous week ended with the equivalent of $2.42 billion in NFT trades.

NFT tokens got even more hype thanks to Paris Hilton: the American celebrity gifted her unique tokens to attendees of Jimmy Fallon’s show the day before. We’re talking about the NFT collection Forever Fairytale, which will soon be released by Hilton. It commemorates the socialite’s memorable moments with her husband Carter Reum.

Additionally, during the airing of the show, Paris also showcased an NFT from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) series, which she recently purchased. Incidentally, the show’s host Jimmy Fallon also owns a copy from BAYC. He remembered to show it off along with Paris’ unique token.

We believe that YouTube's initiative will be another step towards the development of unique non-exchangeable tokens and cryptocurrencies in general. Their potential goes beyond proof of ownership of a particular image or song, so we will clearly see further development in this area. In parallel, major platforms will continue to add support for NFT, as it also allows users to stand out and express their taste. And this is sure to have a good effect on the performance of such platforms.
