We start with the explanation. Introducing unique NFT tokens into various games or platforms is not a good idea given the crowd sentiment on this asset category. As a reminder, many people outside of the digital asset sphere see NFT as something bad. The reason for this is the allegedly high electricity consumption by miners, which has a negative impact on the environment.

And while this is true for the Etherium network right now, many modern cryptocurrencies like Avalanche, Solana and Atom are powered by the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism. This means that they don't require huge processing power, so the electricity costs are negligible.

The general public’s dislike of NFT became clear at the end of 2021. In particular, the Discord platform was the target of criticism due to the idea of introducing unique tokens and cryptocurrency wallets. After the publication of the corresponding preview image, many users took to directly threatening the developers to cancel their paid subscriptions. As a result, the platform’s management decided to abandon their interaction with the blockchain world.

The developers of the legendary game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. faced a similar reaction. Shortly after announcing the introduction of NFTs, which would not affect the plot of the new part in any way, representatives of the project publicly rejected the innovation.

In this regard, the move by the publisher of GTA looks rather bold. And in this case we can really end up with the implementation of the feature.

The prospect of NFT tokens was announced in a recent interview with Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two. Here’s his rejoinder, in which the expert shares his view of the situation.

We are indeed convinced that there is an opportunity for the integration of NFT into Take-Two’s offerings in the future.

However, the CEO is in no hurry to reveal any details. Here’s another quote from him, published by Decrypt.

We believe in rare commodities and collectibles. However, there is also concern about speculation surrounding them. We want consumers to always have a good experience every time they interact with our products, but losing money on speculation is not good, so we will refrain from it.

What exactly this statement means is unclear. Apparently, in the case of the publisher's new game, NFT is unlikely to be able to resell to other players. However, their arrival will in any case be an important development for the digital asset industry.

As a reminder, several video game companies have already integrated NFT into their franchises. In December, Ubisoft became the first major developer to introduce unique tokens in the new Ghost Recon game series. However, this integration proved to be a failure and failed to catch on with gamers.

Also worth mentioning is Square Enix, which is developing the popular Final Fantasy game series. In a public address last year, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda said that blockchain-based games could become a new priority for developers.

We believe that the full potential of NFT tokens for the world is still to be found. And we're not just talking about games, but other areas as well. As we already know, NFT tokens are used for getting bonuses on various platforms. This means that everything is limited only by the imagination of the developers.
