Note that Wozniak’s interactions with the crypto industry have not always been positive. For example, in the summer of 2020, it became known about his lawsuit against YouTube and the platform’s parent company Google. The reason for this was the fraudulent broadcasts, whose authors impersonated Steve Wozniak and reported on the alleged distribution of cryptocurrencies.

As a reminder, in this case, the scammers ask to send a small amount of cryptocurrency to their address "for confirmation" and also promise to double the amount. Naturally, all this ends up in a loss of money for gullible investors. So Wozniak was clearly not happy about the use of his identity. Read more about the story in a separate piece.

The main benefits of Bitcoin

With all his love for Bitcoin, however, the Apple co-founder has a rather cold attitude towards the latest trends in the crypto-industry. In an interview, he called the unique NFT tokens a “disconnected phenomenon” that has emerged in an oversaturated market. Here is one of his quotes in which he shares his view of the current situation. The replica was published by the news outlet Decrypt.

There are so many crypto projects popping up right now. Everyone has a way of creating a new one and even enlisting the services of some celebrity to promote it. It seems that such developers just collect a lot of money from people who want to invest in them at a very early stage.

Let's note that sometimes these situations do happen. As an example here, the Pixelmon project, whose developers raised $70 million, but ended up providing investors with strange pictures of terrible quality.

However, the NFT niche cannot be considered a failure. At least considering that some collections of unique tokens are being hunted by collectors, while their creators are adding benefits to the coins. In the form of passes to various events, for example.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak

Wozniak himself also has a direct connection to the startup crypto industry. In February, his TV show called Unicorn Hunters launched its own “dividend-paying” cryptocurrency called Unicoin. Steve serves as a contestant on the show, which debuted on Amazon Prime last May. The show has long been a hit on American TV, in which aspiring entrepreneurs present their unique ideas to knowledgeable investors and get funding if their ideas are worth pursuing.

Wozniak also stated that Unicoin can serve as a pass to the world of investment for start-ups. Here’s his quote with which he describes the novelty.

The token itself is unstable. It might not even be worth anything. But I hope Unicoin will be very successful. At least it is not based on empty promises. Its fundamental value really lies in the return on investment.

Unicoin is not Wozniak’s only project in the cryptosphere. In December 2020, the Apple co-founder launched Efforce (WOZX), a cryptocurrency that was supposed to be “the first energy-efficient blockchain-based platform”. The essence of Efforce is simple: each WOZX token holder invests in tokenised energy savings. Companies report their energy savings quotas and this data is put on the blockchain for redistribution between token holders and participating businesses.

A few days after Efforce’s presentation, the token reached an all-time high of $3.66. Since then, however, the price of WOZX has plummeted, dropping as low as 15 cents. The token has thus depreciated by more than 95 per cent of its high. It is not yet clear whether Unicoin will suffer a similar fate. However, that is not important – what matters to the crypto industry itself is the fact that celebrities like Steve Wozniak openly support cryptocurrencies. That means more and more crypto-currencies will be used, and that could lead to crypto becoming the new global means of payment.

We believe that Steve Wozniak's attention to the cryptocurrency niche will really benefit the industry. The entrepreneur's lack of understanding of the NFT token niche is just another reminder of how young the industry is. As the industry develops and acquires new features, non-interchangeable tokens are sure to gain a lot of fans. At least a few years ago, the number of cryptocurrency sceptics was also much higher.
