Bored Ape Yacht Club is the most popular collection of NFT tokens in the blockchain world, which has gradually replaced the legendary Cryptopunks in this role. It is also the most expensive series of unique tokens, and its minimum price is well ahead of its closest rivals.

We checked the actual data: right now the minimum price of the Bored Ape Yacht Club token is 109 Ether, which is the equivalent of $337,000. For comparison, the already mentioned Cryptopunks are on the second place with a corresponding figure of 59.95 ETH or $186 thousand.

The high price of BAYC representatives also attracts the attention of fraudsters. As it became known at the beginning of April 2022, a hacker hacked into the Discord server of this NFT community and posted a link supposedly for issuing new unique tokens. However, it ended up being a trivial theft of rare tokens and the loss of the equivalent of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Read more about the story in a separate piece.

How NFT become popular

The first animated film is due out in June, the next two in a trilogy will be released by the end of 2023. Coinbase developed the concept for the series in conjunction with the release of its own NFT trading platform. Coinbase’s director of entertainment and culture marketing William Swan commented on the event. Here’s his rejoinder.

We were inspired by the Bored Ape community and were delighted to invite them to join us in creating the film.

The Degen Trilogy announcement

A Coinbase spokesperson told Decrypt that the short films will premiere at live events, with more information to follow in the near future. Additionally, BAYC token holders themselves will be heavily involved in the process of The Degen Trilogy.

Note that movies about the cryptocurrency industry are not a new phenomenon. For example, a documentary called Ethereum: The Infinite Garden is in the making right now. As the title suggests, it centers around the history of the Ethereum blockchain. The project itself was funded by the community: the creators of the idea wanted to raise 750 ETH, but received 1035.96 ETH in the first three days of the film.

It is already known that Etherium creator Vitalik Buterin has participated in the filming. Here is a shot with him, shared by the authors of the project.

Also a cartoon around NFT tokens called The Gimmicks is being produced by Mila Kunis. You can watch them at the link.

Incidentally, some of the token holders of the collection decided to go a step further and open their own fast food restaurant in California, inspired by the Bored Ape character #6184. The establishment has been named Bored & Hungry. It has opened in partnership with rapper Bun B and his restaurants Trill Burgers and Belief Burgers.

Restaurant opening announcement

The concept of Bored & Hungry is aimed at cryptocurrency owners. Here you can pay for your order with Etherium or ApeCoin tokens. The opening of the restaurant was quite successful – a YouTube video published on the day of the opening showed a huge queue lined up for it.

We believe that the idea of a movie will benefit NFT tokens as a phenomenon. Its release and eventual success will show just how strong the trend is and will also attract the attention of new buyers. And since cryptocurrencies are needed to connect with unique tokens, this will also have a good effect on them.

The popularity of NFT is still growing, which means it’s not time to miss the most interesting of the new trend. Read more about it in our millionaires cryptochat. We’ll talk about other topics related to decentralised assets there as well.
