It should be noted that there are more than enough options to interact with cryptocurrency fans online right now. For example, the recent flash mob to create an alternative Bitcoin “blockchain” is worth mentioning. In its case, it comes down to buying BTC for a certain amount and then tweeting about the transaction. In this way, cryptocurrency buyers sort of create a separate chain on the social platform.

Why do cryptos need such apps in the first place? LoveisBitcoin co-founder George Saulidis provided the answer. Here’s his rejoinder, in which the entrepreneur shares his perspective on what’s going on.

Problems can and do arise when people’s internal reference points diverge. Reverence for crypto reveals a different picture through marketing and propaganda. There is something far more valuable in the world – memories, family, friendship.

This positioning sounds strange, as the love of decentralisation is unlikely to be a good ground for relationships. Besides, building them around Bitcoin is a strange idea in itself, as the first cryptocurrency definitely has nothing to do with "family".

The app’s interface looks like this.

Orange Pill founder Matteo Pellegrini faced the challenges of relationships on a personal level. When he moved to a new location in Santa Monica, Pellegrini could not find any new friends interested in cryptocurrencies. That’s when he came up with the idea for his app.

Orange Pill uses geolocation to find crypto-enthusiasts nearby. The app can be used for a variety of purposes – finding new friends, conversation partners, dates and even business proposals. In other words, it’s like a multifunctional Tinder, but with a much wider range of uses.

Pellegrini believes that the mass domination of digital assets worldwide is only a matter of time. That’s why it would be cool to have as many connections as possible with those who are already aware of all the global changes in the economy. Here’s his cue.

On an instinctive level, most people understand that the traditional monetary system is not working. I have yet to meet anyone who is happy with the current state of affairs and traditional currencies.

Then again, general dissatisfaction with the economy and the global financial system hardly sounds like a good reason and a solid basis for a relationship.

In an interview with news outlet Cointelegraph, Pellegrini noted that Orange Pill could be the best solution for deiting specifically among crypto-enthusiasts. When both partners are interested in the same topic, it is much easier for them to find common ground quickly, the entrepreneur believes.

Networking with other crypto-enthusiasts is a great experience. You can skip the formalities and talk about the weather.

However, cryptodating has its obvious disadvantages: It is still very dangerous to reveal your real name and the fact that you own crypto, especially if you have a lot of it. Such apps could well be used by fraudsters and abusers, who would extort you or simply hunt down wealthy investors. There are many stories in the crypto-sphere of kidnapping, assault and blackmail of owners of digital assets. So it’s not likely that the small likelihood of getting into a relationship is worth disclosing such an important fact for your own safety.

The creator of Orange Pill is aware of the potential dangers, which is why the app can only be used on a paid basis. This measure, according to Pellegrini, is a necessity to “filter out noise” and spam.

It seems to us that a paid basis will not stop potential criminals. Especially if they plan to "make money" from finding cryptocurrency investors.

LoveisBitcoin, on the other hand, has stricter user privacy requirements – the platform does not disclose geolocation at all. Instead, it focuses on forming individual communities of interest, and sometimes even completely anonymous.

Interest-based dating is fine, but we believe that in the case of crypto, any contacts should be left anonymous by default. Firstly, for the safety of the investor themselves, and secondly, anonymity simply fits the paradigm and spirit of the community. So the verdict here is unequivocal: looking for possible friends or couples at the expense of revealing your connection to cryptocurrencies is not worth it. The potential risks of such an activity are too high.
