A10 is a popular miner from Innosilicon. It is worth noting that it has been possible to mine Ethereum Classic before, and quite successfully. However, back then, the ETC network worked on the Ethash algorithm, which also refers to the regular Ethereum.

In November 2020, Ethereum Classic developers moved the blockchain to the new Etchash algorithm following the Thanos hardfork. The main purpose of the latter was to reduce the DAG file required to mine the cryptocurrency. Thanks to this, video cards with 3GB and 4GB of memory were able to continue mining ETCs without any difficulties, and ASICs stopped mining ETCs.

As we’ve already noted, the hardfork also involved abandoning ASIC miners, which have traditionally been seen as a threat to blockchain decentralisation. However, there are no problems with them now – and existing ASIC miners from various vendors are gradually making ETC mining possible on their devices.

However, before moving on to the setup for the Innosilicon A10, the reasons behind Ethereum Classic’s rise in popularity need to be explained.

Why Ethereum Classic is growing

The main reason for the hype around Ethereum Classic is the upcoming transition of the regular ETH Etherium to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm. The event is tentatively scheduled for September 19, 2022, but after the upgrade, digging ETH using video cards directly will no longer be possible.

Ethereum against other cryptocurrencies

That said, Ethereum Classic, which is the original Ethereum chain, has no plans to switch to PoS, meaning miners will continue to dig ETC without any difficulties.

Ethereum Classic's creator Vitalik Buterin also contributed to the popularity of Ethereum Classic. The day before, he said that the transition of Ethereum to PoS to be, but fans of PoW can use Ethereum Classic. In addition, Buterin called the ETC network a perfectly normal chain for mining.

Here is a video of that statement.

Finally, another argument for ETC’s popularity was the $10 million investment in the project’s ecosystem by AntPool this week. How did it affect the cryptocurrency’s price? The coin’s price has more than doubled in a month. Here’s a chart of ETC over the past month.

How to mine Ethereum Classic on Innosilicon A10 and A10 Pro

Today we found out about the firmware release for Innosilicon A10 and A10 Pro that allows to mine ETCs. The developers noted that in the case of the A10 Pro, the performance of the miner has increased by 10 percent compared to mining Etherium. At the same time the hash rate of regular A10 has not changed at all.

Note that the firmware is currently only available for A10 Pro, but it should work on A10 as well.

An update for ETC mining with Innosilicon A11 is in preliminary development. Its launch will be announced later.

Firmware can be downloaded from the official project support website. As noted by 2Miners pool miners, it takes a little longer to get the miner up and running with the new firmware, but in general everything works.

You need to download the update to mine. If anything, here are the settings for ETC mining.

Testing of new firmware by Innosilicon for ETC mining

By the way, the official Innosilicon website has started listing the devices as “miners for ETH/ETC”. Here’s the E9 page, for example.

It appears that Etherium's move to Proof-of-Stake will be one of the main catalysts for the popularity of Ethereum Classic. Many miners are likely to continue mining ETCs, and large pools and equipment manufacturers are interested in it. Accordingly, the hype around "classic" Ethereum is sure to increase over a long period of time.
