When will ETH ether mining stop

The developers of Etherium have clearly defined the conditions for the blockchain’s transition from PoW to PoS. They are talking about the so-called total network complexity, or TTD, of the blockchain. The calculation of this metric is quite complex. However, in simple terms, it is a variable that changes as new blocks are found on the Etherium network. And as blockchain creator Vitalik Buterin put it, TTD should be understood as the number of hashes left to be smoothed out by the owners of the computing hardware on that network.

A tentative date and time for an update to Etherium is suggested by a platform called Wen Merge. It shows the current TTD, so it can estimate when the blockchain will switch to PoS. The update will take place on 14-15 September.

Today the figure stands at 57,550,769,778,571,543,052,288, with a target level of 58,750,000,000,000,000,000,000. With that in mind, there are almost fifteen days until the update.

Countdown to the Etherium update

Overall, this date is fairly accurate. Yes, if the hash rate of the network changes markedly in one direction or another, the figure will shift. However, in general it is worth counting on exactly the specified date.

In theory, Ethereum developers could postpone the update to another TTD, but this is very unlikely. In addition, Ethereum Foundation representatives have previously confirmed that preparations for the update have already been made – and successfully.

How the Ethereum merger will take place

There are quite a few rumours in the blockchain community that Ethereum mining on video cards will supposedly continue after the merger, with the process being much more time-consuming due to the complexity bomb. This is actually not the case. After the update, the Ethereum network will simply stop accepting blocks created using the PoW consensus algorithm. Accordingly, mining will end.

So far, all indications are that this will happen around September 14, 2022. And after that, it will no longer be possible to mine ETH with video cards or ASICs.

What will happen to the 2Miners Etherium pool

Once the TTD in the Etherium network reaches this level, 2Miners pool will not be able to find new ETH blocks and receive remuneration for them. Depending on the total hash rate of the network, this may happen a little earlier or a little later. That said, ETH mining on 2Miners will continue right up until the very moment that Etherium transitions to PoS.

Etherium pool from 2Miners

The 2Miners team would like to thank the wonderful community of ETH miners who have joined the mining of Ether on the pool. In total, more than 100 thousand people are now mining this cryptocurrency on the pool! So in such an unpleasant moment, the ETH pool will continue to support its users and work until the last block.

After the merger, the pool will continue to accept balls for a short period of time, but there will be no reward for them, of course. Ideally, the 2Miners team would like to automatically switch its users to mining Ethereum Classic ETC. However, this is technically impossible because ETC uses the Etchash algorithm, which is a modified version of Ethash used in Ethereum. Accordingly, the software configuration would have to be changed manually.

Payouts of ETH ethers on the 2Miners pool

Payouts of Etherium miners before the merger on the network will follow the standard scheme.

Payouts to ETH addresses are made every two hours. This is usually noticeably faster if there is no network congestion. Payouts to BTC and NANO addresses will be made once a day at 15:00 MSK.

After the merger, the 2Miners team will make one last payout to all members of the Etherium pool, and it is scheduled for a few hours after the network upgrade. In theory, delays are possible, as the Etherium mainnet has never before operated based on the PoS consensus algorithm.

Many cryptocurrency exchanges will close ETH deposits and withdrawals while the network is being updated. For BTC and NANO payouts, 2Miners uses the Kraken and Binance exchanges. The last BTC and NANO payout may be delayed until at least one of the exchanges restores operations.

There is no need to request the final payout manually – nor do you need to lower the payout threshold if you have a very high one. The 2Miners pool will pay out all outstanding balances that exceed the minimum threshold for the ETH pool. Here it is:

  • For Etherium addresses – 0.01 ETH;
  • For Bitcoin addresses – 0.005 ETH;
  • For Nano addresses – 0.0005 ETH.

What to mine after the transition of Ether to PoS

There are more than enough cryptocurrencies to mine after the transition of Etherium to the new consensus algorithm. All of them are listed in the detailed material “What to mine after Ethereum moves to POS?”.

The most profitable cryptocurrencies to mine

Right now, the most profitable cryptocurrencies to mine are Ravencoin, Firo, Cortex, Ergo, Aeternity, Beam, Bitcoin Gold, Ethereum Classic and Callisto. The current list for your hardware is always available on the 2CryptoCalc calculator page.

It is important to understand that the transition of Etherium to PoS will free up a huge amount of computing power. Because of this, cryptocurrency mining yields will be unstable for a while while miners jump from one coin to another. In any case, the 2Miners pool has all the possible cryptocurrencies to mine on video cards. Just start the pool, choose the most profitable coin for your hardware and start mining.

Some cryptocurrencies have a huge hash rate, others have a small one. In general, the unqualified leader here is Etherium, with Ethereum Classic, Ravencoin and Ergo the closest to it. Accordingly, choosing one of these coins could be considered the safest option – at least in the days following the merger.

How to switch to mining Ethereum Classic ETC

To mine ETC:

  • Change the pool host in the mining software from eth.2miners.com:2020 to etc.2miners.com:1010;
  • Change the mining algorithm from ethash to etchash.

ETH and ETC networks have the same address format, so sometimes it is possible to use the same address from ETH network for ETC. Well, to interact with the address, all you need to do is to change the network from ETH to ETC in your wallet’s settings. In case of mining to the cryptocurrency exchange address, you will have to get a new address in the corresponding deposit tab.

The 2Miners pool also supports BTC payments on the Ethereum Classic pool.

If you’re using an ASIC miner, check out this article about Innosilicon devices. You will need the following settings.

Nicehash does not support ETC mining at the moment, however the developers have promised to make this happen as soon as possible.

How to switch to mining Ravencoin RVN

To mine RVN:

  • Change the pool host in the mining software from eth.2miners.com:2020 to rvn.2miners.com:6060;
  • Change the mining algorithm from ethash to kawpow;
  • Change address format, because ETH and RVN addresses are different from each other.

How to mine Etherium PoW

The day before it became known about the appearance of a project called EthereumPoW (ETHW). Its developers want to continue the current Ethereum chain without switching to Proof of Ownership. Most likely, there will be no smooth transition of ETH miners to ETHW mining, because ETHW developers plan to launch the network some time later – some hours – after ETH is switched to POS.

Ethereum PoW project page

Right now, 2Miners pool representatives are contacting ETHW developers and considering adding the coin to the pool. If ETHW launch happens, we will post about it. If so, EthereumPoW will be added to the 2CryptoCalc calculator.

What to mine on video cards in 2023

Ethereum’s transition to Proof-of-Stake is one of the most important developments in the cryptocurrency mining industry in its history. Generally, the project developers planned to do so immediately after the blockchain’s launch in 2015, but in the end, the transition process took as long as seven years.

Etherium is one of the main catalysts for the development of the video card mining niche. Therefore, things will be different now, and in 2023 the choice of cryptocurrencies for mining will have to be more careful. However, you will not be able to start mining ETH on a Rig and forget about it for a few years.

Traditionally, we remind you that to determine the profitability of mining a particular cryptocurrency, you should take into account the operating costs. And especially the cost of electricity.

What to mine on Nvidia graphics cards in 2023

Nvidia graphics cards are synonymous with flexibility in cryptocurrency mining. In general, Nvidia devices are capable of handling all suitable mining algorithms. This is a well-known fact, which is an advantage compared to AMD devices.

Even today, there are enough budget options on the market like the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti that still bring in as much as 30 cents a day.

Profitability of mining on Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

4GB of memory is enough to mine most cryptocurrencies, including Ravencoin. RVN’s DAG file is now 3.531 GB, which means that you can mine RVN on a card with 4 GB of memory only with Linux. On Windows, mining Ravencoin with GTX 1050 Ti is almost impossible.

The Ravencoin era

At the same time, 4GB will not be enough to handle labor-intensive algorithms like CuckooCortex, as you need at least 8GB to mine Cortex CTXC.

Suppose you have an advanced Nvidia card like GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. What to do?

Go to the 2CryptoCalc calculator and select the appropriate model. In response, you will see a table with the profitability of mining.

Mining yields on Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

Even without ETH, there are enough cryptocurrencies today that can generate more than a dollar a day. Obviously, after the transition of Etherium to PoS, the profitability of RVN, ETC and other similar coins will subside due to the influx of miners. However, the lucky owners of the same RTX 3070 Ti can mine Cortex-type cryptocurrencies – and its mining yields will likely not change much.

What to mine on AMD graphics cards in 2023

Most often, AMD graphics cards are cheaper than their Nvidia counterparts. These devices often consume more power and support fewer mining algorithms – a feature that could prove crucial once Etherium moves to PoS. Thanks to lolMiner and other mining software developers, AMD cards now support more and more coins.

For example, five-year old video cards like the AMD Radeon RX 480 or RX 580 can generate around 50 cents a day even without Ethereum.

Profitability of mining on AMD Radeon RX 580

With a 4GB video card, you can continue mining in 2023. ERGO, RVN and ETC are suitable here. In this case, Ravencoin RVN mining on devices with 4GB of memory will be possible until approximately mid-2023.

What about advanced cards from AMD? For example, what to mine on AMD Radeon RX 6800XT?

The procedure is similar. Go to 2CryptoCalc and specify the appropriate device name. In response we see the table.

Mining profitability of AMD Radeon RX 6800XT

Again, even without ETH the situation looks good. How exactly the transition of Etherium to PoS will affect other coins is unknown. However, it will be possible to find out very soon in practice.
