Updating the nodes

The 2Miners mining pool representatives are constantly updating the nodes of the supported cryptocurrency networks so that users can mine without too many problems. Here’s a list of the clients that were updated in August.

  • Ergo Protocol Reference Client 4.0.41
  • Beam Node Groovy Gluon 7.1.13105
  • Zcash v5.2.0-gd6d2093beb6
  • Monero v0.18.0.0-release

Hardfork on Monero network

The Monero (XMR) network update numbered v15 took place on August 13 on a block of 2,688,888. The update was originally scheduled for July, but was postponed due to the need for additional testing of hardware wallets and multi-signatures.

Details of the update on the Monero network

From now on, transactions that are conducted by legacy XMR nodes will no longer be accepted by the network. This means that in order to continue using the blockchain you need to update your wallet to the most up-to-date version.

Overall, this update has increased the anonymity of the network, reduced the size of transactions by 5-7 per cent, and accelerated their distribution. As a result, wallet synchronization became faster by about 50 per cent. A detailed list of updates is available on the official Monero blog page.

Growth of the DAG file on the Etherium network to 5GB. ASIC miner issues

In August, the DAG file size in the Etherium blockchain reached the 5 GB mark, after which devices from the Innosilicon A10 series stopped producing ETH. The reason for the malfunction was some kind of hardware or software bug, with the developers not tentatively intending or able to fix the situation anytime soon.

Generally, mining of Etherium using such devices will end in mid-September, so it is unlikely that the said models will ever mine ETH again. At the same time the Innosilicon A11 was not affected in any way.

DAG file growth on the Etherium network to 5 GB

The day before, Innosilicon representatives released new firmware for Ethereum Classic (ETC) mining, which is now the best option for A10 users. Read more about this in the article “Innosilicon ASIC miners stopped mining Ethereum ETH. What should device owners do?”.

Merger in the Ethereum network

In mid-September, the Etherium network will switch from the PoW consensus algorithm to PoS. This event is called a merger or Merge, and it will take place around September 14. And as soon as it happens, the era of ETH mining with processing power will be over.

The 2Miners team recommends miners to switch to mining ETC, RVN or ERGO. That said, it is difficult to predict the profitability of mining these cryptocurrencies after the Etherium update, as networks of different coins will receive an influx of huge computing power at the time of the update. In any case, the 2CryptoCalc calculator is traditionally able to suggest the most profitable coin at the moment.

Etherium and other cryptocurrencies

After the merger, 2Miners pool representatives will make the last payout for all members of the Etherium pool. The final payout in BTC and NANO may be a bit delayed, as the cryptocurrency exchanges will be updated with the Eth blockchain update. In addition, requesting the final payout manually is not worth it: the 2Miners team will pay out all outstanding balances that exceed the minimum threshold for the respective pool. These are:

  • For Etherium addresses – 0.01 ETH;
  • For Bitcoin addresses – 0.005 ETH;
  • For Nano addresses – 0.0005 ETH.

How to start mining Ethereum Classic

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is most similar to Etherium (ETH). The main difference between them is the mining algorithm: ETH’s network runs on Ethash, while ETC has a modified Etchash. In any case, it is very easy to start mining ETCs, below are the settings for mining with Gminer, T-Rex and lolMiner. When mining ETCs with ASIC miner, the latter will most likely need to update the firmware.

The settings for Gminer:

miner.exe --algo etchash --server etc.2miners.com:1010 --user YOUR_WALLET_ADDRESS.RIG_ID

Settings for T-Rex:

t-rex.exe -a etchash -o stratum+tcp://etc.2miners.com:1010 -u YOUR_WALLET_ADDRESS -w RIG_ID -p x

Settings for lolMiner:

lolMiner.exe --algo ETCHASH --pool etc.2miners.com:1010 --user YOUR_WALLET_ADDRESS.RIG_ID

The format of addresses in Ethereum and Ethereum Classic networks is the same. Because of that, when using a non-castodial wallet to switch from ETH to ETCs, all you need to do is to switch the network in your settings. However, for the sake of avoiding problems, it is better to create a new ETC address.
