A metavieworld is a space where users can interact with each other. The most common way to do it is via custom avatars, which are people themselves, and to connect to a virtual world, users can use virtual reality devices or standard computers.

A key feature of meta-villages is the implementation of full ownership of certain assets within the digital space, which is achieved through the use of blockchain. In other words, a user can purchase a certain item in the form of an NFT and be its owner. This includes the ability to earn money from activity in meta-villages, to look for alternative jobs there with a full wage, and to spend money in the digital world.

For now, meta-universes are in their early stages of existence. That’s why there’s an opinion that users have yet to assess the possibilities of the digital world and understand their own needs in it. But judging by activity of some companies mass popularization of meta-villages will take place sooner or later.

For example, JPMorgan has already been participating in the trend and has created Onyx Lounge space within the Decentraland platform.

It’s possible that the iPhone maker will support the niche in the future, too.

How Apple views blockchain

Apple’s products are built on ethics and quality that are unique to the company, and have enabled the company to gain traction among rival manufacturers. A similar approach is likely to be implemented in the new device, which will work as something between a virtual and augmented reality helmet. According to Decrypt’s sources, Apple has been working on developments in this area since 2015.

Rumours suggest that Apple could unveil its first VR/AR device as early as next year. It will be called Reality One or Reality Pro – these names can be found in the company’s registered trademarks. Opinions vary on the cost of the device, with many predicting a price tag of up to $3,000. A render of the Reality One/Pro concept is available below. However, this is not the final design of the device, in addition, this render is purely based on rumors and the general style of the company’s devices.

Either way, it’s more than the price of Meta’s new Quest Pro mixed reality headset, which was announced with a price tag of $1,500. Quest Pro can also work as a full-fledged VR headset for online platforms in the form of Meta’s own Horizon Worlds universe and games. It also works with augmented reality, meaning the user will have the ability to interact with virtual replicas of real objects, additional screens and so on.

So far, Meta has only suffered losses from its meta-universe venture, as even Mark Zuckerberg has stated on more than one occasion. However, Apple clearly believes that their approach could be a revolution in the field of mixed reality devices. There are precedents – in 2007, the first generation iPhone really revolutionised the smartphone industry.

The exact specifications of Apple's VR/AR helmet have not yet been disclosed. Many insiders claim that the device will feature a relatively new M2 chip, which is already found in the latest MacBook generations. The device will probably be equipped with the latest user motion recognition system, which the Meta doesn't have.

Apple is also rumored to be working on a new RealityOS operating system specifically for virtual universes

Time will tell how revolutionary Reality One/Pro will prove to be. Right now, all information about the new device is based on insider rumors and company patents, but that doesn’t mean that the device will necessarily be released in this form.

We think it's only a matter of time before the tech giants in general get involved in the niche of metaworlds and virtual reality. After all, for them it is another source of income and a chance to improve their reputation, and for Apple it is an opportunity to expand their own ecosystem. Thus, the likelihood of such a release is obviously still there. The main question is how Apple's competitors will respond to this kind of initiative, and how fast it will happen.
