Meanwhile, Bitcoin itself is proving to be an increasingly popular investment among large companies. For example, this morning the Tokyo-based company Metaplanet announced the purchase of another batch of 156.78 bitcoins for approximately $10 million.

Thus the total balance of the organisation’s digital asset exceeded the threshold of one thousand coins. To be more precise, their number is 1,018 BTC.

The news was welcomed positively by investors. Still, Metaplanet shares rose in price by 8 per cent after the corresponding publication.

Where there is a statue of Satoshi Nakamoto

On Twitter, Picozzi explained that the goal of the project was to attract as many people as possible to the crypto industry through art. Here’s a rejoinder on the subject.

I am grateful for the opportunity to make a statue of Satoshi Nakamoto for the city of Lugano, displayed in Ciani Park. The statue can disappear in front of onlookers, and what is left of Satoshi is visible “between the lines” (code) for all Bitcoin users.

Artist Valentina Picozzi

According to Cointelegraph’s sources, the statue of a faceless figure working at a laptop can only be viewed from the side.

Well, when viewed from the front or back there is an effect of transparency due to the peculiarities of the design. The monument is made of 304 slotted blocks, while the blocks themselves are made of stainless steel and Corten steel. Valentina continues.

It took 18 months to explore how to combine the concept of disappearance together with the idea that we are all Satoshi. To do this, you have to place yourself behind the statue.

The phrase "we are all Satoshi" is often used by Bitcoin fans. It is a symbol of the idea of decentralisation of the first cryptocurrency's network and a reminder that the blockchain and the cryptocurrencies based on them do not belong to one person. Moreover, the contribution of everyone involved in what is happening in the niche is important and invaluable.

At times, the "except Craig Wright" part is added to this line. We are talking about a fraudster who for many years pretends to be the creator of Bitcoin without any evidence, and his activity was reduced to filing lawsuits against representatives of the crypto-industry on the basis of fake statements about his own affiliation with the development of the digital asset. However, in the spring, the court officially ruled that Wright was not related to the creation of cryptocurrency, so his history in the niche is essentially over.

Satoshi Nakamoto statue in Lugano

Picozzi, an Italian artist and orthodontist, first learnt about Bitcoin in early 2012 and has been working as an activist artist ever since.

Her statue is installed in front of Villa Ciani in Lugano, a mid-1800s mansion that now hosts events. The monument was unveiled as part of Lugano’s annual Plan B forum, which brings crypto industry leaders, government representatives and enthusiasts to the city.

Lugano Mayor Michele Foletti said the statue symbolises the city’s ongoing commitment to digital innovation:

‘Lugano is fast becoming a leading centre for digital innovation and this statue honours Satoshi Nakamoto and embodies the forward-thinking spirit that drives our city.’

According to Picozzi, the statue will not always be in one place, meaning the final location for installation has yet to be determined. It will remain part of Ciani’s permanent collection for the time being.

It is currently in Siani Park, but because city officials have some work to do, it will be moved. As soon as I finalise the location, I will let the community know.

This is not the first time the city has decided to erect a monument to the anonymous creator of Bitcoin. Another bronze representation of Satoshi Nakamoto was installed in Budapest’s Graphisoft Park in 2021.

Sculptors Gergely Reka and Tamás Gilley deliberately designed the figure in a hoodie with a mirrored face so that each of the visitors “can see themselves in the figure of Satoshi”. Again, in this way the creators emphasised the importance of the participants in decentralised networks, whose activity is essentially what makes such projects successful.

Bronze statue of Satoshi Nakamoto

The unveiling of the Satoshi Nakamoto statue in Lugano is a symbol of recognition of decentralisation and a reminder that the future of cryptocurrency depends on every participant in blockchain networks. The new sculpture disappears at a certain angle and thus invites the viewer to reflect on their role in the world of digital assets. As can be judged from the comments of coin lovers on social media, the realisation of the statue has been more than successful.
